Achieving Amazing Things- One Bead at a Time
Voted another resounding success...The only thing wrong was the weekend was too short!
Peter Minson's Glass Beadmakers came away with handsfull of the most amazing creations, beautiful patterned beads in their hands...and ear to ear grins on their faces.
Valma Spencer Sun could not get her students to leave the classroom, they just wanted more... and wore home some absolutely stunning silver chain maille they had made, with great pride.
Rhonda Winterton's PMC classes were weaving and coiling and Keum Boo'ing equally impressive wearable Fine Silver art which was ready to wear out that very same evening.
Bronwyn Pratt's Silversmithing students made Gorgeous Sterling Silver Chain Bracelets and Bling bling Rings that noone would have guessed were their first attempts at silversmithing.
Kelley Storum lived up to her legendary reputation of extracting amazing creartivity out of even the most timid beader with chunky gemstone bracelets and neckpieces... no two were even remotely similar, but all spectacular.
Jo Fraser's Pearl knotters were honestly squealing with excitement at finally learning the easy way to achieve those closely knotted beautifully draped strands of pearls. The Macrame students went away with finished necklaces with gemstone pendants and a variety of bead combinations that will be sure to turn heads in the supermarket queues.
Everyone remarked at how well everone mixed and the managers of the venue were really impressed with the way that the 50 registrants onsite got into the spirit of the weekend and just had a really good time. The Instructors were exhausted, but very happy, and so glad that they were able to share in the experience.
Thank you to Poacher's Pantry for our wine tasting Friday and especially to Stuart Warner (of the Hyatt Hotel High Tea fame!) for his fabulous background music.
The vote at the final afternoon tea was to return again next year... with more classes and more days, which we are investigating.
New Instructors have already been lined up for next year and we will be keeping these amazing instructors from this year also where possible.
A new feature will be a talk and workshop session on running your own business, and promoting yourself and your craft, by Yellow Brick Road Marketing principal, Rene Sutherland. Something to really look forward to.
Dates for next year's Retreat will be the first weekend of MAy 2008, actual days will announced shortly and Bookings for Full time registrations will begin in November with early bird discounts closing again at the end of January. Day trippers will have to wait until February next year to register. It is recommended to register Full time to wallow in the atmosphere and participate in the sharing and fun of the weekend.
We hope to be offering optional Full Day workshops either side of the weekend also, for the fully addicted Beadaholics to really get their teeth into a project.
We will also be running a Silent Auction of Handcrafted Pieces contributed by registrants, the proceeds going to a selected Charity. So get your thinking caps on and start designing something to present. It does not have to be beading, just any handcraft you have a talent in. Your chance to show off too!!!
We look forward to seeing the return of the 2007 Retreaters and even more of the 2006 group, and more of you out there to join in the learning and fun.
Just a note from one happy Beadaholics:
A note to thank you for all your efforts in organising the Beadaholics Retreat over the weekend................ I enjoyed the weekend very much - the instructors were excellent, and the workshops and projects good value, and I came away feeling very pleased with myself, having learnt 'new tricks' and met so many interesting people over the weekend and will look forward to next year's event!
kind regards
Anne-Maree
